I grew up in San Quintín, Baja California, where community mattered more than possessions. Some of my earliest memories are of joining my father to help children in need in local agricultural communities. Those experiences taught me that giving is not about how much you have, it is about how much you are willing to give from the heart.

Years later, I traveled the world alone with only a backpack. Living with less helped me become more present, but it also opened my eyes to the waste and pollution created by everyday consumption. I began to believe that fashion could be created in a more thoughtful way.

Moving to the United States brought new challenges. English is my second language, and building a life in a new country required patience, courage and persistence. Those experiences shaped the values I wanted my future business to represent.

In 2020, I left my corporate career and sold my car to invest in Mavis by Herrera. For the first three months, there were no sales only work, hope and a deep belief in the purpose behind the brand.

Today, Mavis by Herrera creates handwoven sustainable handbags in small batches, honoring the artisans who make them and the planet we all share. This brand is a reflection of my journey: choosing less, taking risks and believing that business can create meaningful change.
